What happened
On September 16, 2026, the New York Attorney General, IMPACCT Brooklyn, New York State Homes and Community Renewal, and New York City HPD announced that four Central Brooklyn buildings containing 57 affordable apartments had been preserved.
Why the properties were at risk
According to the Attorney General and IMPACCT Brooklyn, the buildings were previously owned by a charitable nonprofit that attempted to sell them to a commercial purchaser while resolving debts. The Attorney General intervened in the bankruptcy proceeding so the properties could be acquired by IMPACCT Brooklyn instead.
What happens next
IMPACCT Brooklyn will operate the buildings and pursue funding for rehabilitation. The announced plan is for the 57 apartments to remain affordable while the properties are repaired.
Why this matters to tenants
Affordable-housing ownership changes can affect rent restrictions, regulatory agreements, repairs, management, and tenant protections. Tenants in regulated or subsidized buildings should keep leases, regulatory notices, subsidy documents, and ownership-change notices.
